Roads now clear after escaped animals removed from carriageway
Police were called to deal with a herd of sheep which escaped on to the carriageway of the A55 in Chester today (Monday, August 26).
Bank holiday traffic was brought to a standstill after the animals managed to get on to the road at about 10am.
The incident happened on the A55 near to its junction with the M53.
A motorist stuck in the queues contacted The Chronicle to say they had seen armed police at the scene but this has not yet been confirmed by Cheshire Constabulary.
A police spokesman said: “Officers have been dealing with an incident on the A55 Chester near to M53. There have been traffic delays as a result. The roads are now open and traffic is clearing.”
